First Church’s Monster Bookfair

September 12, 2020 September 2020 No Comments

The First Church’s annual book sale certainly deserved its title,  Monster Bookfair.   Maybe it was the COVID effect or perhaps it was the decluttering craze earlier in the year, but donations of books were way above normal both in quantity and quality.

As a result sales also broke records and that combined with Ted Preston’s talk on the Friday evening raised $8400 for the upkeep of the church.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who contributed as helpers, donors and buyers.

 Greytown Music Group Concert

September 12, 2020 September 2020 No Comments

Pianist Richard Mapp returns to Greytown on 13 September, as part of his tour taking him from Nelson to Kerikeri, with five other concerts in between. If the Wairarapa is still at Covid level 2 when the concert takes place, the audience will be limited to allow for social distancing.

For this concert Richard has put together four of his all time favourite works, pieces he learned many years ago but has seldom performed since. He says “Haydn’s Variations in F minor are one of the most beautiful and imaginative creations!”  Schumann considered his Fantasy in C major to be the best music he had ever written – the greatest outpouring of his love for Clara Wieck, who eventually became his wife.   … Continue Reading

Spokesman Joe Howells said that the families involved are keen to develop the site in a way that adds to the attractions of Martinborough. “Green Jersey is going to need a new shed to operate from within the next two years, and we are keen to ensure that we build something that fits into the overall development of the site but which also  supports the development of the town”.  … Continue Reading
