Martinborough-Golf-ClubCongratulations to Pip Kirk winning the prestigious Carterton Womens Open Day Cup recently shooting an Gross 80, five shots clear of 2nd place getter Sereana Phillipps. Pip also had a stunning drive on number 11 to pick up the longest drive in 1st Division , a wedge into the green was all she needed, the rest of us requiring a 3 wood and a wedge! In fact the Martinborough women did really well with several being called up to the Prize table. … Continue Reading

MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

March 15, 2017 March 2017, Regular Features, Sports Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

It was close but Rookie Justin Morris wasn’t too fazed with not breaking or equalling the course record held by Lance Phelps after securing his first win as a Professional at the the 2017 Invitational Spark Pro Am at Martinborough recently. The field of 43 PGA professionals were highly complimentary of the course and the progress in upgrading our greens though a number did stumbled with our Par 3’s with very few managing to birdie them.

Morris, teeing off first thing took full advantage of the calm conditions scoring 10 birdies, paring  the 4 Par 3’s, the only blip came on his last hole when he bogeyed the 18th. to record his Gross 63. This score was three shots clear of the three way tie in second place to Wesley Jeon who eagled Numbers 1 and 2, though bogeyed the par 3’s 12 and 16. … Continue Reading

WBS Martinborough FC News

March 15, 2017 March 2017, Sports Comments Off on WBS Martinborough FC News

After recently taking over the Junior Soccer side of things, myself and a team of willing parents have recently started up a Development/skills training session for all the local children who are interested in Football/Soccer. These are held every Saturday morning at the Coronation Park grounds in New York Street from 9.30am until 11am (weather permitting). There is no charge for attending as the parents involved are doing this purely to develop our children and because we enjoy the game too. The feedback so far from kids who attend and their parents has been a fantastic thumbs up and this is only the start!

Also, working on from the Juniors, we have been successful in getting approval from Capital Football for a Senior Martinborough side to start this season (April 2017) and a huge thank you to Wairarapa Building Society for their sponsorship to enable us to purchase our initial kit – the team will be known officially as WBS Martinborough FC from here on in. … Continue Reading

Golf pro-am success _ without clubhouse

By Karen Stephens A record field of 172 players, including 43 professionals from New Zealand and Australia, battled light winds, warm temperatures and even light early-morning fog at Martinborough golf’s 2024 CER Electrical and Holmes Construction pro-am on February 1. At least that was the range of excuses for some …
