After quite a few years reporting for the Club I have decided that it is time to put away the pen and cast my mind back to what has happened.

I have been very lucky that the paper has not been had up for some of the terrible remarks that I have made over the years. It has been all I fun mostly. So thanks that you have not taken things further.

There are quite a few ‘thanks yous’ that have to be made. Firstly to Sue Berger for help in getting my comments to the paper. The Club is so lucky to have such a secretary – she is one of the best, who always makes things the best for the Club. … Continue Reading

New Active Tennis classes have started again for this season, but there is still space on Monday morning and Friday afternoon in Martinborough and Wednesday morning in Masterton. The classes proved to be very popular over this winter.

This is not an ordinary tennis class. But an intensive tennis workout, designed to improve your tennis and fitness using non-stop drilling method. Everyone that joined one of the sessions really enjoyed it, so if you would like to know more about Active Tennis contact Marco de Groot (details below). … Continue Reading

Golf Club News

It is my humble opinion that the Club and Wellington golf has lost a player of the future in George Wilkins. This guy has been taught by Bill Jones the play and the etiquette on the golf course. His family have moved to Canada where his dad has taken up a good position. I wish him all the luck and look forward to see his name on the Honours Board in the future.

On the local scene the Oldies are having lots of fun. Terry says there is always room for more who want t experience the joys of playing with the Oldies on a Tuesday afternoon. Tee off at around 12 to 12.15.

Honor has done a great job with the 9 Hollers. A reminder that on Wednesday 12th October is ‘Bring a Friend Day’ Ambrose. This was one of the highlights last year and very successful. Come on girls, don’t be shy.

One of the innovations this year is the combining of both of the Men’s and ladies’ plus 9 Hole finals on the same day. This is going to be a great concept and I hope it is for the future.

One of the biggest tournaments of the year , the Lamb and Chardonnay, was held on the 28th September. A full field was entered with a waiting list. Over 140 players took part and the course was closed.

The Thursday Club just gets bigger and bigger, especially when the weather is fine . I note that it is not the same names that win every week but that is spread around quite evenly. There are ladies taking part as well now.

October has the Trust House 36/72 Hole Stroke Play Open being played over October 4th and 5th. Also on Sunday 19th it is the Murray Halberg Day. They are always pleasant days and the profits go to good causes.
A few finals have been played during the last month and I cannot believe that Bob and Phil got beaten in the A B Martin Four Ball Match play.

Finally to all the Championship finals ‘Good Luck’ and than you all for your golfing your matches played on time and, at times, in trying conditions.
Good golfing Kevin Campbell
