Martinborough Golf Club

July 25, 2016 July 2016, Sports Comments Off on Martinborough Golf Club

The course is finally starting to play more like winter golf, with a lot less run on the fairway and no run if you miss the fairway! Members handicaps are starting to settle, with a number of members’ lowest-ever handicaps this summer creeping back out again.

The Ladies 18 Hole Open Day held on Friday 3 June was a great success. The course was literally sparkling as a light frost greeted a field of 60 players from  Carterton, Pahiatua, Shandon, Miramar, Masterton, Riversdale Beach, Judgeford, Napier, Dannevirke, Kapiti, Karori, Manor Park, Boulcott Heritage Farm and 19 of our own members from Martinborough. Excitingly the overall winner was relatively new Martinborough member, Louise Smith with a Nett 66. She shot a personal best of 94 off the stick, and won the Sherry Weatherstone Best Nett Cup for her efforts. … Continue Reading

MARTINBOROUGH RUGBY CLUB

July 25, 2016 July 2016, Sports Comments Off on MARTINBOROUGH RUGBY CLUB

Junior-rugby-Team-talk- The rugby season is ticking along, the weather has been playing the part which means big crowds at games soaking up the sun and some great rugby. Our Club Day was a highly successful day, with continuous rugby from 9.30am, the JAB running a sausage sizzle, and a lunch prepared by Joanne TeKani for the “Old-Timers”, it was certainly very busy.

The new hit shields have arrived for the JAB & Seniors, made in our green and black, these not only look great but will have plenty of use before the season ends. These were funded by Trust House.
Our new oven has arrived, this was partly funded by Eastern & Central Community Trust and we look forward to using it at our remaining home games. Our kitchen looks great, definitely a venue to consider if you are organising a function – contact Nicholle Hawkins 02108367237 if you are interesting in booking.
On Saturday the 18th we were fortunate to have the Rugby World Cup visit our Clubrooms, this was a rare opportunity to get up close and personal with this trophy, although only rugby greats who win the World Cup get to hold it it was still a great chance to be photographed with it. … Continue Reading

With the JAB competition having started on the 14 May and the Senior competition into the second round Saturdays are very busy for our rugby families.  As well as some busy Friday nights as some of the Under 11 and Under 13s get to play on the turf at Memorial Park under lights.

We would like to welcome Mana Ngaau and Vaike Potoru who have arrived from the Cook Islands to play for our Senior Premier team.  I’m sure that they will enjoy their stay here and if you see them around be sure to say hello.
A huge thank you to the Martinborough Community Board who granted us $734 to help fund the buses for our Senior away games when they travel large distances. … Continue Reading
