WBS MARTINBOROUGH FC – calling all players (young & old-er)

February 11, 2019 February 2019, Sports Comments Off on WBS MARTINBOROUGH FC – calling all players (young & old-er)

How time flies as we are already gearing up for a new season for the Juniors and Senior team.

If you haven’t heard much about us, where have you been!

Each year we have at least 6 junior teams (of all ages and abilities) taking to the field to represent the town and a ‘slightly’ older contingent playing in the Wairarapa 2nd Division.

Last year our Junior teams were fantastic – everyone playing their part to ensure that Martinborough FC will be a force in the Junior leagues for many years to come (and having coached a few local ‘newbies’ pre-Christmas there is a lot of talent out there).

So if you are looking for something for your children to do (ages from 5 up to 12/13) then please get in touch at the email below and we can then keep you in the loop with our planned activities, pre-season training etc…

For the Senior team, we will be looking to start pre-season training on Tuesday nights – the first being 12th Feb 2019 down at the football grounds from 6.30pm to about 8pm.

Martinborough Golf Report

Happy new year to you all – hopefully everyone is enjoying/surviving this heatwave…sorry farmers….hooray for the grape growers, hopefully it will be a good vintage!!

The course is looking supreme and is playing better than ever.  Those of us lucky enough to play in this year’s Spark Pro-Am tournament were exceptionally grateful to the hard work of an army of volunteers that had a major clean up on their hands after the gale force winds that ripped through on the Wednesday.  I understand that the chainsaws and leaf blowers were in action by sunrise!  The day was a huge success and most enjoyable, with a fine banquet of food served after prizegiving!  The winning professionals Mark Purser, Luke Kwon and Ryan Chisnall tied on 65.

Men’s interclub is underway– Division 5 won 10-5 against Titahi Bay away and Division 11 won 9.5 to 5.5 against Boulcotts Farm – keep up the good work guys! … Continue Reading

Kuranui Girl’s Football’s great season

December 19, 2018 December 2019, Sports Comments Off on Kuranui Girl’s Football’s great season

The Kuranui Girl’s First Eleven football team has enjoyed a very successful season winning their competition for the second year in a row and also completing the season undefeated. The team was also named as the Kuranui Team of the Year at the College’s Awards Evening .

A highlight was competing at the New Zealand Secondary Schools football competition for the Grant Jarvis Trophy which was held held over four days at Whanganui.  This competition attracts the best teams from colleges all over New Zealand with a total of twenty four teams taking part. Kuranui reached the semi finals to come in fourth place.  Given that Kuranui team is from a small college compared with most of the other competing teams this was a very meritorious placing.

Coach Chris James commented that in his considerable coaching experience he had never come across a friendlier or more dedicated group.

The team is really grateful to have such an experienced coach as Chris whose training expertise was certainly a factor in their success.  Also a big thanks to their manager Wendy Turton  who looked after the organisational side of things to ensure that everything ran smoothly.
