Change at Martinborough Automotive

December 23, 2020 December 2020 No Comments

There has been a change of ownership at Martinborough Automotive, although  most customers will probably be unaware of there being new owners as they have been working there since the mid 1990s. On the third of November owners Colin and Eva Fenwick handed the business over to their sons Nathan and Mathew.

Colin and Eva purchased the garage from Bruce Palenski  in 1984 and in the ensuing thirty six years have made many improvements. The major being the renewing of the petrol storage tanks and major  rebuilding and additions including the new larger retail area and alaundry mat which were all completed by 2016. An additional expansion to display lawn mowers for sale and accessories is planned to be added next year.

Mathew now runs the workshop where it is planned to add more staff. Nathan is in charge of the retail and forecourt, where full service will continue to be offered. Nathan said that the numerous Wellington people pulling in for petrol express surprise at finding that they are being served and that such a forecourt service is still exists.

Nathan commented that over his time at the garage clientele has noticeably divided into two  groups; during the week they are the long term local people while during the weekend there are the now  many weekend residents who they have got to know . Covid9 has also resulted in a noticeable boost in the weekend day visitors to Martinborough who call in for a fill up.

Colin and Eva thank all the loyal clients who have supported the business over the years. However they are not totally departing, Colin will still be in the workshop, “you couldn’t keep him away” Nathan commented. Plus Colin and Eva still look after the garage every third weekend to allow Mathew and Nathan a break from the seven day service they continue to provide.
