Christmas is coming.

June 12, 2023 June 2023 No Comments

Oh no!   It’s only June and here’s an article about Christmas.  Don’t panic.

This is not an alert to send you on a shopping spree or a signal to start baking mince pies.  It’s to give you plenty of notice about the 2023 Santa parade.  This year it will be on Saturday, December 9, with activities in Square from 4 pm, the Parade starting at 5pm and carols completing the evening.   With only some 200 sleeps to go, it’s not too soon to start planning for such a big event.

MADCAPS, the most recent organisers, found the combination of COVID and increasingly demanding traffic management requirements a big challenge.

The community old and young missed the Santa Parade so well-known locals Mary Smith and Kay Mills stepped in to ensure the Parade would continue.  They have a wealth of experience organising the event in the past.  They say this one will be their swansong and are determined to make it a memorable one.

So this year ,with the support of the Community Board, a Santa Parade Team has been formed which includes members from a range of organisations to ensure this much loved tradition continues and thrives.

This can only happen if others share their enthusiasm so this is an invitation to start thinking how you, your organisation, club or business might like to participate.  It could be the time-honoured tradition of a float, a sponsorship or providing volunteers.

You might be a juggler, drive an interesting old car or have a flock of performing nanny goats.  The group is open to any ideas that will makes the parade fun and interesting. Entry forms will be coming out shortly.

PS:  Sorry, if you fancied yourself as Santa, the position has already been taken.
