Corlette Doherty leaving Wharekaka

February 11, 2019 February 2019 No Comments

Recently we at thwe Wahrekaka Turst Board were very sorry to receive Corlette Doherty’s resignation from her position as General Manager.   Corlette has held a number of positions at Wharekaka over nearly 14 years, culminating in her appointment as General Manager a few years ago.   The trust board is very grateful to Corlette for her years of unstinting service, leadership, wise advice and good humour.   Managing an aged care facility is never easy, and small facilities like Wharekaka face the most challenges.  Corlette has brought us through some challenging times with strength and grace.

During the time Corlette has been with us, Wharekaka has grown from a being simply a small rest-home for older people into a fully equipped hospital level care facility, plus 10 adjacent villas.   The range of services offered has expended to include respite and palliative care, and Meals on Wheels to the wider South Wairarapa elderly communities.  Corlette’s contribution to this growth and its success has been enormous.

As a local person, Corlette has used her knowledge and connections to achieve the very best for Wharekaka and has ensured that the facility is an integral part of the Martinborough community. Her contribution has been enormous and she will be sincerely missed by those closely associated with Wharekaka (past and present). She has always placed a strong emphasis on the welfare of the residents and has frequently stepped into the breach when staffing issues have occurred.

Corlette is stepping down from her busy General Manager role to spend more time with her family. The Board is sad but understands her decision and wishes her all the very best for the future.

We are now seeking another General Manager to take up the reins at Wharekaka.  This is not an easy task.  Corlette leaves big boots to fill and the Trust Board is determined to find the very best person for this special role.  We hope to bring you an update next month.

Joy Cooper, Chair,  Wharekaka Trust Board.
