Councillor Comment

October 15, 2020 October 2020 No Comments

Top of the list for this month must be the start of the Long Term Plan (1 to 10 year timeframe) consultation called ‘WHAT’S ON TOP’.

The LTP sets our strategic direction for the next 10 years and includes project priorities, budgets and rates forecasts for the next 10 years, this is updated every three years.  The Spatial Plan is a map of how we envision the district to look in 30 years time and we are integrating this work into the LTP process.

This requires a lot of consultation with our wider community and is an opportunity for everyone to have their say on what council should focus on from now and looking 10/30 years out.  This will also include those topics that were consulted on during the Annual Plan and indicated as a priority for the next three years.

Safe Drinking water

Climate Change

Minimising Waste.

Along with being able to give feedback on your priorities through the Council website  www.swdc.govt.nz there will be a number of opportunities for you to do this in person.  These dates are available on the website or through notices in our Libraries and at the Council offices. Some of these dates are listed here:-

Martinborough Community Workshop – 7pm Thursday 22nd October in the Waihinga Centre – no registration required.

Stakeholder Workshops – registration required.

Business Associations & Real Estate Agents workshop,  5.30 – 7.30pm Tuesday 13th October

To register to attend one or more of these workshops please email ltp@swdc.govt.nz confirmation of your registration and further details will be provided.

Meet Councillors & Community Board members out and about –

Martinborough P&K Supermarket, 5 – 7pm Wednesday 30th September

Martinborough Library drop-in, 11am – 1pm Wednesday 7th October

There are other opportunities to meet councillors and community board members in Greytown, Featherston and our rural areas.  These are advertised on the council website.

On another note our Amenities team have been very busy with the upgrading of the Pain Estate Homestead and this is looking fantastic and just waiting for the new tenants to move in.  Work has now started on painting the outside of the cottage and this will be in keeping with the homestead.

There are also going to be 2 new Dog poo disposal bins installed one in Princess Street near the corner with Kitchener St and the other along Puruatanga Road between Cambridge Rd and Regent Street.  For those walking dogs, please ensure you use these rather than putting the plastic bags under hedges or just along the street.

Hopefully everyone will have a chance to enjoy our lovely spring weather and a chance to walk around town enjoying the beautiful spring flowers in residents gardens – my favourite the peonies are out early this year.
