Councillor Comment

June 11, 2018 June2018 No Comments

This month I would like to start with congratulations to the committee and members of Hau Ariki Marae, in their foresight to bring the DIY Marae project team and film crew to Martinborough.

The amount they have achieved through their DIY Marae project is nothing less than outstanding and is a credit to their and the communities hard work over the weekend of 18th May.  The marae is a wonderful asset to our community and is unique because people from all ethnic groups feel welcome and they are encompassing of the wider community as well.

This year First Church Martinborough are holding their Monster Mid-winter book fair at the Marae over the weekend of the 22nd to 24th June – please come along and support both the Marae and First church in their joint effort to showcase the marae and support the wider work of the church.

I know that I keep talking about the Long Term Plan, but this is such an important document, which guides council in its spending for the next three years.  This year we received our largest number of submissions (182 in total) and to councillors, this is great as it shows the interest people have in what Council is spending and the areas these funds are going to, we thank you for this.  This will be signed off at the Council meeting on the 27th June.

Last but by no means least, a number of people have mentioned that they are disappointed that dog owners are not cleaning up after their dogs.  The fouling of the footpaths makes walking around our streets a real hazard and is not nice to either smell or to accidently step on.   Council has a supply of biodegradable bags for sale, these come in a pouch that can be attached to the leash and disposed of in rubbish bins around town.

Well, that is me for this month remember that June 21st is the shortest day and from then on we are heading to longer days and the start of Spring.  Keep warm.
