Featherston Amateur Wrestling Club

August 12, 2024 August 2024, Sports No Comments

It’s been a busy season at the Wrestling club so far in 2024.

In late May/June FWC attended the Waikanae Tri-series tournament, the Wellington  Championships and the North Island Championships. An impressive collection of Gold, Silver and Bronze medals returned with the teams.

The tri-series with local clubs introduces our wrestlers to tournament wrestling and prepares them for attending the National events that follow. The friendly club atmosphere has been great this year and we look forward to the Tawa tri-series tournamnent in late July.

The NZ Club Champs in Tauranga will be the next National Tournament for most of our wrestlers with the NZ Secondary Schools and National Championships in following months.

Good luck to two of our wrestlers who are finalists in the Wairarapa Times Age Sports Awards. Congratulations to Angus Read (Youth Sportsman) and Wairangi Sargent (Junior Sportsperson). This award represents the commitment of those athletes but also the tireless efforts of our coaches Chris and Jeremy Sargent who give so much of our club.

There is still time to get a taste of wrestling for any beginners 5:30 p.m. at the gym 52 Fitzherbert Street, Featherston. Or get in touch: featherstonamateurwrestling@gmail.com
