GOLF CLUB NEWS

July 8, 2013 July 2013, Sports No Comments

I have been to many sporting fixtures in my time but on Friday 21 June I was at a function for the Grumpy’s when I heard the biggest load of rubbish in announcing the winner of the Grumpy’s Cup – but it was amazing, and the lucky recipient of the cup was Michael Hatrick. My thanks to Terry Blacktop for such a brilliant evening.
The 9 holers are holding their own and are going from strength to strength; the results keep on coming through every week and Pat Wood has had a stellar month.

The 18 hole ladies held a very successful open day during the month where a hole in one was scored by a visitor from Karori, Lillian Lai. Club winners on the day were Sandra Peterson, Kaye McIsaac, Marilyn McKenzie and Marie Scrimshaw.

Howard Griffin, George Wilson and George Hingston dubbed the “Picnic Boys” are very much a part of Monday’s golf sessions and bring their own refreshments with all the trimmings to enjoy during and after their round sitting outside the club house contemplating the day’s play.

The Grandma’s and Grandpa’s tournament was held a couple of week’s back which attracted a reasonable field and the winners were a husband and wife combination, Ro and Lyle Griffiths.

The club also has the privilege of providing a very good course for the Ngawi guys, namely Bill Jago, Andrew Sim, Garth Gadsby and Ali Holmes; we always see them on a Thursday but never on the weekend when the fish are biting.
Thursday Club just goes from strength to strength and Roger Parkinson is consistently in the honours list and does not seem to do much wrong. A special engagement was also announced between Ailsa and Nigel – we wish them all the best.

Approximately 20 members are off to Queensland shortly to show the Aussies how to play golf and party – we hope they have a good trip and arrive back in one piece.

The majority of club matches are being played on time and Colin Whibley-Smith, a popular member of the club and very keen golfer, has won the Captain’s Trophy for 2013.
