Following on from the success of Leonie Wilde at the national level, we have two more golfers who have featured well in NZ Golf National Competitions. Congratulations to Felicity Warren for placing 3rd nationally in the Aotearoa Cup and Jill Baker for placing 14th in the Veteran’s Cup.

August has been a busy month at the Martinborough Golf Club. A few Wednesday’s ago was the annual Combined 9 and 18 hole Ladies Day. It’s amazing what a spot of fine weather on a Wednesday does, bringing over forty players to the course. The day was most enjoyable, and it was a lovely opportunity to meet and have a conversation with both groups together in lieu of just a wave out from across the fairway.

The Riverside Cup, the Wairarapa Ladies Match Play competition, came down to the wire with an exciting final round at Featherston. Masterton, winners in 2014, were keen to retain the trophy and were sitting on top of the table by a mere half a point ahead of Eketahuna, with Martinborough and Riversdale tied for third with one round to play. Martinborough had a great day final day and won 4/2 against Riversdale to finish in 3rd spot overall. Carterton brought their A team and suppressed Masterton by winning 4/2, and with Eketahuna securing the win over Mahunga 4/2 they won the trophy.

The Bottle-O Lefties/Righties 36 Hole Tournament was held on 16 August, which was a great success attracting golfers from all over.

The Men’s Club Championships are well underway, with only the semi-finals and finals to play. The Ladies Club Championships start next week. All the finals are to be played on Saturday 25 September this year.
Also coming up in September: Martinborough host the Cotter Rosebowl on Friday 4 September, and our members play in the Lady Stout at Royal Wellington on Friday 18 September.

Entries are already full for the 2015 WBS Lamb and Chardonnay Open Ambrose Tournament which is being held on Sunday 27 September. Incredibly the field of 32 team entries filled up in just a week!

Entries are now being taken for The Farriers’ Men’s Open Stoke Play Tournament, which is being held at Martinborough on the weekend of 3 and 4 October 2015. There are 72 or 36 Hole options. Please contact Sue, our Club Secretary, for more details about the tournament.
