A couple of months ago I was at a meeting with the Rural Women group, and heard the story of a gorgeous little girl called Kathlyn who is 5 and loves most things a little girl of her age enjoy.

The only difference between Kathlyn and most girls of her age is that in her short life she has had 26 surgeries and major heart operations and is currently down to  12 different medications she takes daily to help her bounce through her busy school day. Kathlyn is a HeartKid.

Kids born with heart defects are not assisted with funding by the NZ Heart Foundation so kids like her come under the Wellington@Heart ‘umbrella’.

We Wellington@heartHeart supports children with heart defects, it’s  a great organisation where other families can support each other and get strength. (Sadly it’s  not a government fully funded organisation).

Kathlyn has spent a great deal of time at Star Ship Hospital, and at her side through all of them is her mum Fiona.
Hopefully while you are reading this Martinborough Star you’ll see an advert for the Rural Women’s BALLANTYNES Fashion Show.

So Two months ago I listened to  Fiona tell her journey of what Heart Kids are, and what their mums do, and we have planned a weekend from the 13th to the 15th of September for 40 well deserved mums of Hear Kids in the Wairarapa and Wellington who needed a break away, we hope to have a hairdresser, a beauty therapist, manicures and make up.. We also want things that several groups can go out and do, a Cafe, a movie, a vineyard tasting.. and these wonderful mums will be based at the Copthorn Hotel in Masterton.

We have a lot of money to raise and that’s where the poster for the Rural Women BALLENTYNES Fashion Show comes in, It’s one of the events being held to cover some of the costs. We need drivers to provide transport to outings. If you are a Cafe ,a movie theatre, hair dresser,  we’d be grateful to hear from you.  This week we  will launch our HeartKids Mums Pamper Weekend Facebook page

We’d love to see you at the  fund raising Rural Women’s  Ballantynes Fashion Show at the Martinborough Golf Course 12th July at 7pm.
