Junior Football

July 23, 2019 July2019 No Comments

As you read this, our Junior teams will have just got over the halfway mark for their season. This year we have been very fortunate to have had an influx of new players and interest in that we are now fielding 7 junior teams every Saturday morning in their respective leagues.

A big thank you needs to go out to all the coaches and assistants of these teams who give up their time to not only take the teams on a Saturday but also arrange training sessions during the week as well.

From what I have heard and seen over the past few weeks, all of the Martinborough FC players are performing admirably and a credit to the town.

Some of our older teams have been re-graded this year and have come up against tough opposition – which has been good for them to learn new skills, etc…

We held our First Junior Festival of the season back at the end of May and over the course of the morning hosted nearly 40 teams from across the region (along with their siblings, parents and the occasional dog!). 2 more to go on 29th June and 17th August.

The Senior team had a bit of a bumpy start to the season and had to withdraw from the competition at one point as we didn’t have enough players to field a team. Thankfully, under the guidance of Tim Roach, the team has been resurrected to a new level and we are pleased to have over 16 players keen to turn up each Saturday to represent the town.

Last Saturday (22nd June) saw Martinborough FC Senior Team beat Masterton Lions 3-0 to win the 3rd Division and gain promotion to Division 2 for the final 5 games of the season (of the 5 matches in Division 3 – Martinborough FC won 3 and drew 2 with 3 clean sheets amongst those).

I would like to pass on a huge thanks to those who continue to support our ever growing club – WBS, Margrain Villas, The Claremont Motels & Apartments, Mitre 10 (Martinborough), Pain & Kershaw’s and South Wairarapa District Council- your invaluable support is always appreciated and acknowledged.

If you are a local business who is interested in supporting the club as it grows please let me know at martinboroughfc@gmail.com as we would be interested in speaking with you to see what we can do together to support both sides.

Or if you want to see what all the fuss is about please come down to support the kids and Senior team on a Saturday.

Until next time – hopefully not too long.

Paul.
