Rejoice, rejoice we now have our overnight drop box for books.  You have all been so patient continuing to drop books off at the old library but now you no longer need to do that.  Situated to the rear of the building is a little slot in the back door with a cunningly crafted locked box to capture your book.

Of course and as usual, my thanks to the Martinborough Mens Shed for their willingness to help us and for making and fitting the box into place.  I do not know where we would be without them.  Unfortunately they can’t help with copper cabling which we are still waiting for Chorus to fit into the building.  Without that we cannot run our free access computers and robust Wifi through Aotearoa People’s Network.

We do have an interim Wifi but its limited capacity gives only an hour of duration rather than the open ended access we usually have.  However I have faith that in due course Chorus will come to the party and we will once again be a fully functioning library.

We can still offer printing facilities if you email us the item (martinborough@swdc.govt.nz) or bring in a USB stick.  We also hope to have the fax machine back up and running when Chorus have been but meanwhile we can email the document instead if that helps.  All our other office facilities are working beautifully, such as the scanner, photocopier, laminator and our smiles.

Talking of smiles, Victoria is beaming away whilst reading stories to pre-schoolers at our Book Babies session on a Tuesday morning at 10.  She also like a bit of a boogie so there will be songs, such as our old favourite ‘Sleeping bunnies’ – always a favourite.

Even if your pre-schooler is only a few months old, exposure to books and reading out loud is an excellent way to introduce them to the wonder of the written word and they will gurgle contentedly watching Victoria bounce up and down.

Vic is also bouncing up and down being a dog in the Greytown Little Theatre production of Sylvia (starting on the 14th of March in Featherston) and I can’t wait to see how she plays a dog on stage – what a hoot.  Perhaps we could get a private showing at the library of her dog impersonation skills.

Lots of thanks to everyone who has been donating books – so many have come in including a large pile of picture books (yay), DVDs, the new Gregg Hurwitz and lots of murder and mayhem fiction books.  Love it.  Please continue giving us your beloved items as we will treasure them as much as you and the pleasure will continue onwards to other library users.

Talking about waxing lyrical, I think I must have eaten something that has made my brain go do-lally – excuse my wittering and look forward to seeing you all in the library soon.  Shirley
