Life-Enriching Experiences in Martinborough
In just over three decades, Martinborough has gone from sleepy rural outpost to bustling tourist town. Grateful to the wine industry for Martinborough’s resurrection, local businesses and other enterprises are buoyant, particularly during the summer months. From artisan producers and creatives to world-class hospitality, Martinborough is indeed a desirable place to visit. Now a new tourism product places focus on keeping visitors visiting – and staying – during the mid-winter period.
Life Enriched Holidays launched earlier this year, are designed to grow mid-week, mid-winter tourism for the benefit of Martinborough’s local providers and authentic producers. Combining short, 16-20-hour learning programmes over 3 days, with select meals, additional activities and heritage accommodation included, Life Enriched Holidays are the first, curated, edu-holiday packages of their kind in New Zealand.
Providing the opportunity to ‘do that thing you always wanted to do’, Life Enriched Holiday courses make the most of ventures such as Martinborough’s Dark Sky. Geared to hobbyists or those simply interested in the stars, this Dark Sky programme takes guests through tutorial with Wairarapa astronomer Becky Bateman, as well as a session in Astrophotography with John Whitby of Star Field, Ruakokoputuna.
All equipment is supplied, plus a night of wine and food matching as cooked by Michelin Star Chef Adam Newell of Union Square Bistro and Bar. Newell himself is tutor of Life Enriched Holidays’ ‘Michelin Star Experience’. This edu-holiday provides a 3-course 3-day culinary programme of cooking alongside Newell, plus visits to producers such as Olivo, and a 5-course degustation dinner. All Life Enriched Holiday programmes include travel to activities and heritage accommodation staying at the Martinborough Hotel.
