Martinborough Choir’s momentous year

December 19, 2017 December 2017 No Comments

This had been a momentous year for our choir.

As well as being our fifth birthday, it has also been a very difficult year for quite a few of our choir ‘family’, who have lost loved ones, who have had serious accidents, who have been dealing with illness, and other significant changes in their lives. Though it sounds a bit corny, I feel that we’ve been united by our joy of singing in harmony.

Every Tuesday, as Ed and I sit in the rehearsal hall waiting for choir members to arrive, I’m always grateful that so many people seem to enjoy our choir, and keep coming along, while I’m ‘learning on the job’.

This year we’ve been very lucky to have Mark Dorrell (an amazingly talented musician and teacher) as our Patron.

Mark has worked with the choir several times now, and we are learning a lot from him.

I hope our association with him will continue for many years hence, as he is so inspiring.

This year our end-of year concert, on December 12 at 7.30pm in St Andrew’s Hall will be a ‘retrospective’, and include songs from five years of our concerts.

We’re also featuring small groups from within the choir in the concert, as we have so much talent in our midst I thought we were ready (for the first time) to have a ‘choir only’ concert.

Many thanks to ‘Novella’, who joined us in our first four years of December concerts!

The choir’s final gig for the year will be leading the singing at Carols At Cobblestones, on Saturday eve, December 16, in Greytown.

If you think you might like to join our choir next year, please email:

Best wishes to all for the holiday season, Vicki Jones
