Martinborough Community Board

June 18, 2015 June 2015, Regular Features No Comments

Here we are almost half way through the year and so much seems to be happening in Martinborough, it never ceases to amaze me the amount going on in the community.

Youth Initiative
At our May meeting we had a presentation by Archdeacon May Croft and Alan Maxwell, Youth Ministry Development worker on the Martinborough Youth programme which is being run at St Andrews on a Friday evening. This is a further extension of the Breakfast Club and after school programmes already being run in the church hall.

They will be running 2 sessions the first being for year 7 -8 and the second for Year 9+ both on a Friday evening. If you would like to find out more about this or would like to offer help/assistance then please contact the Church office on 06 30…….. in the first instance.

There were 6 applications received and all meet the requirements for being community initiatives and showed benefits for the wider community.
Two of the applications unfortunately did not meet all of the requirements and were therefore declined. One application was deferred pending further information.
We were delighted to approve the following applications :
Lake Ferry Anzac Club to undertake maintenance of the flag pole and surrounding area on the Lake Ferry domain. $1000.00
Wairarapa Mathematics Association to assist with the costs of running the 2015 mathematics competition for both primary and secondary schools. $200.00
Martinborough Hockey Club, to purchase gear bags, goalie kit and first aid kits. $2,157.00

We had $6,000 in the fund and the balance of this $2643 will be carried over and included in the next funding round which opens on the 1st August and closes on the 30th September. You can find out more and down load application forms from the SWDC website – www.swdc.govt.n/MCB.

SWDC Long Term Plan
The draft LTP has been prepared and is now open for comment and or submission – this is very important as it outlines what your Council is going to achieve over the next year and into the future. Make sure you have a look at a copy and ensure that these are the things you would like your rates money to be spent on. A copy is available on the council’s website www.swdc.govt.nz under Policies, Plans and Bylaws, along with a submission form. Submissions close on the 2nd June at 4pm.

If you would like to talk about any of the above, or have something else you would like to discuss then please do not hesitate to contact either myself or any of board members.
