Martinborough Fire Brigade: another big year

December 9, 2024 December 2024 No Comments

2024 fire/emergency calls to end of November: 338

It’s been a big year for the brigade. We’ve welcomed a new Chief and a new Deputy Chief and have seen some great new recruits come on board.

We still need more people so please get in touch if you are interested in joining us.

This holiday season we urge anyone lighting a fire of any kind outside to visit the Fire and Emergency “Can I light a fire?” online tool at checkitsalright.nz to double-check the fire season and conditions in your area are safe for the type of fire you want to light (assuming season is open) or if you need a permit.

Much as we love seeing you all, we’d rather not have that visit be because you are stressed out and

in danger. You’ll see some fire safety information come across on our Facebook page, but the key

messages are:

*keep your grass short, keep gutters and decks clear of dead leaves and debris, and store

flammable materials (such as firewood), well away from your house.

*keep your driveway clear of trees and hedges (if we can’t get our trucks in, it takes a lot

longer to get to you) and make sure your property or RAPID number is visible.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us over the past year. As volunteers we do this out of love of what we do, but it takes us away from work, family, friends, and sleep which impacts far beyond us as individuals.

We wish everyone a happy holiday season.

Drive safe, stay fire safe and call 111 if you have an emergency.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact our CFO Lisa Ireland on 027 363 1066.
