Martinborough Golf Club Champions Found for 2016

November 18, 2016 November 2016, Sports No Comments

golf-club-champions-aCongratulations to all the Martinborough Golf Club Champions for 2016. A number of the matches went the full distance and all were played in very good spirits. It was great to see the largest number of entries in the Women’s divisions in a number of years. Special mention must go to Pip Kirk, who tried to defend her title in the final of the Women’s Silver Championship against multi-time champion Sherry Weatherstone the day before her first baby was due. Baby Hunter didn’t arrive until a week later, but it certainly made for an exciting finals day!

The results of the championship finals played over the last month were:
Men’s Senior Champion: Tom Hindmarsh, runner-up Mark Lucock; Intermediate Champion: Ian Stewart, runner-up Guy Walmsley; Junior Champion: Alan Heath, runner-up James Elworthy; Vets Champion: Bill Jones, runner-up Rick Hargreaves.
Women’s Silver Champion: Sherry Weatherstone, runner-up Pip Kirk; Bronze A Champion: Ju Allen, runner-up: Pamela Messervy; Bronze B Champion: Jaclyn Kras, runner-up Pippa Broom; Vets Champion: Sylvia Beavis, Jan Lankow runner-up.
9 Hole Division 1 Champion: Sherryl Howie, runner-up Barbie Cox; Division 2 Champion: Phil Reid, runner-up Jaquee Reid.
The 2016 Martinborough Golf Club Order of Merit was also decided recently, after 6 rounds having been played throughout the year. This year’s winner was Derek Stephens with a total of 5866.7 points, from 2nd Tora Boyne with 5510 points and 3rd Bill Crook with 5259.51 points.
