Martinborough Golf Club News

June 14, 2016 June 2016, Sports No Comments

The Martinborough Golf Club is in good spirits with club days and club competitions all being well supported. The Captains Trophy and Martin 4Ball club competitions in both the Women and Men divisions are underway for the year.

The club hosted the Wairarapa Women’s Open 4BBB at the end of April. The Women’s Committee were delighted that just over half of the field of 26 pairs were from our club. The course looked splendid in its autumn colours, and the visitors who came from Otaki, Masterton, Carterton and Riversdale enjoyed themselves. The Pair with the Best Gross, presented with the Wairarapa Open 4BBB Trophy with a Gross 73 also returned the Best Nett of 59, were Noora Rota and Jane Buchanan from Masterton.

The Marquis Shield Wairarapa Men’s Interclub competition was hosted by the club on Sunday 22 May. The Martinborough team had a good home-win over Featherston, which sets up an exciting final round on June 12 at Featherston. Martinborough, who are lying second, take on the current leaders Mahunga with either team still able to take out this years’ competition.

Reporting on hole-in-ones seems to be a regular occurrence in the last couple of months. This time it’s a big congratulations to Ed Elworthy, who slotted his hole-in-one on Number 6 during an unforgettable Thursday Club round a couple of weeks ago. With this sort of regularity, which one of you lucky golfers will be next?

Coming up this month is the Ladies 18 Hole Open Day on Friday 3 June; and the home round of the Riverside Cup on 10 June.
