MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB REPORT

It has been a busy couple of months at the Club – interclub has started and the Division 4 and 11 teams are both doing well.  This year we have the added bonus of some new players who joined us at the start of the season and they are certainly adding some strength and depth to both teams.  

The Grumpies have been getting good numbers playing on a Tuesday and it is good to see some ladies joining in.  The winners over the past few weeks have been Marion McKenzie, Phil Reid, John Errington, Doug Ferguson, Phil Silby (visitor from Apiti), Bill Jago and Allan Eagle.  Twos have gone to:  Jason Shaw (2), Allan Eagle (2), Ro Griffiths (2), Brian Russo (2), Brent McKinley (2), Andrew McKenzie, Nick Allen, Bill Jones, John Errington, Greg Dalton, Andy Morison, Derek Stephens, Storm Robertson, Ali Holmes, Tony Taylor and Doug Ferguson.

The Ladies have also been seeing good numbers out playing and the winners recently have been Robyn Blackett, Honor Clark, Rosie Collins, Jan Ferguson, Sylvia Beavis and Sue Dinnison.  Twos have gone to:  Alison Tipler (3 in one round), Sandra Petersen (2), Jenny Wilkie (2), Marie Scrimshaw, Carol Parkinson, Karen Shaw, Felicity Warren, Sherry Weatherstone, Mariana McDermott, Pamela Messervy, Sue Dinnison, Ju “Queenie” Allen and Bindy McLeod.

The 9 holers are outnumbering the 18 holers some weeks and the winners recently have been Jenny Tosswill, Michele Falleni, Leonie Wilde, Tania Williamson and Mary Herrick.  Twos have gone to Sherryl Howie (2) and Jo Guscott.

Thursday Club is going from strength to strength and the winners over the last couple of months have been:  Andrew Sim, Johnny Gray, Pete Griffiths, Ed Elworthy, Duane McFarlane and Andy Morison.  There have been a huge number of twos scored:  Sheldon McNamara (3), Matt Thomas (2), Colin Whibley-Smith (2), Doug Clark, Mariana McDermott, Brian Russo (3), David Stevenson (2), Whitney Griffiths, Malcolm Wood, Johnny Gray, Stu Taplin, Kris Chamberlain, Dayle Harwood, Bill Jones, Martin Napier, Bob Schofield (2), Pete Griffiths, Raymond Matthews, Ali Holmes, Chris Ranish, Ro Griffiths, Tim Loe, Frank Colton, Keith Rayner, Andre du Preez, Francois Richter-Visser (Omokoroa), Malcolm Bridge and Jason Burt.

Last week we held the Featherborough Tournament and there was a good field of 84 out playing.  The Ladies Division was won by Jo Loe, Division 1 Men went to George Kirk and Division 2 Men went to Rob Smith.  Twos went to Alison Tipler, George Kirk (2), Randal Warner (2), Peter Schenk, Chris Ranish, Rob Lopez, Dayle Scrimshaw, Gary Quirke (Shandon), Guy Walmsley, Tora Boyne, Richard Nicoll (Manor Park), Tim Loe, Tony Taylor and Rob Smith.

Next month we are hosting the St Johns Ambrose on Friday 16th April – enter your team of 4 with Terry Blacktop or the office at the Golf Club.
