MARTINBOROUGH GOLF CLUB REPORT

June 9, 2021 June 2021, Sports No Comments

It is a hive of activity at the course today – lots of men with rakes, leaf blowers and leaf suckers tidying up around the clubhouse and squash club.  The course is looking good and the greens have come back well after being cored early last month.

There have been good numbers playing Grumpies on a Tuesday with winners over the last few weeks being Brent McKinlay (twice), Raymond Matthews, Rob Lopez and Darren de Joux (ex Featherston but now residing in Sydney).  The last couple of weeks the Grumpies have played a hidden hole competition and an Irish Stableford – who knows what is in store for them next month!!  Twos over the last few weeks have gone to Mariana McDermott, Storm Robertson, Russell Walker (visitor from Mangawhai), Paul Riddiford, Whitney Griffiths, Brent McKinlay, John Warner, Rob McCreary, Chris Cole and Chris Ranish.

At the end of April the Ladies played Nancy McCormick 4Somes over 36 holes with Ju Allen and Jo Loe winning best gross and best nett went to mother and daughter combination Honor and Olivia Clark.  Other winners over the last few weeks have been Ju Allen, Nicola Warren and Jan Ferguson.  The only player to get a two recently has been Carol Parkinson.

The 9 holers have been playing their Howie Cup Championship over the last couple of weeks so not much to report this month.

Thursday Club is still very well supported every week with over 50 playing every Thursday.  Winners recently have been David Kershaw, Frank Colton, George Hunt and Bill Jago.  Twos have gone to Rob Coy (2), Sheldon McNamara, Doug Ferguson, Russell Walker (yes that man from Mangawhai), Andy Morison, Malcolm Bridge, Mariana McDermott, Nick Morison, John Errington, David Stevenson, Paul Riddiford, Rob McCreary, Bob Tosswill, Chris Cole, Pete Price, Ed Elworthy, Rob Lopez, Kris Chamberlain, Paul Shepherd and Ailsa Malneek.

Weekend competitions are being well supported, particularly on Sundays, with Guy Walmsley, Roz Harding, Sir William Southgate, Julie Dondertman, Peter Schenk, Rob Lopez, Emily Loughnan and Sue Fox all being winners.  Twos have been had by Sandra Petersen (2), Brian Russo, Martin Napier, Dayle Harwood, Doug Clark, Bob Tosswill, Sir William, Shane Hartnell, Dayle Scrimshaw, George Kirk, Rob Lopez, Guy Walmsley, John Warner, Doug Ferguson, Brian Russo, Andy Morison, Derek Stephens, Chris Hanson and Bob Schofield.

Interclub has now finished apart from Marquis Shield which still has a couple of rounds to go.  Mens Division 4 had a great finish to the season winning their division so they will be playing in Division 3 next year.  Div 11 boys also had a good season just missing out on the play offs.  Ladies interclub has also finished apart from Tilson Salver and Riverside Cup which still have 2 rounds to play.

This coming weekend (weather permitting) we are hosting the Eastwood Motor Group Beef & Burgundy Ambrose and Queens Birthday weekend Martinborough Kindergarten are having their Ambrose fundraising tournament.  Entries for the Kindy Ambrose should be sent to Megan Gibson, martinborough@wmkindergartens.org.nz.

That’s it for another month Kris
