Martinborough Golf Club Report

December 9, 2021 December 2020, Sports No Comments

It has been a busy few weeks out on the course.  In mid November we had our Murray Halberg Day with 72 out enjoying the course.  Davis Lester Clarke and Kris Chamberlain will be representing Martinborough at the Eagles Field Day at Paraparaumu in January.

The following day the Ladies travelled over to Royal Wellington to compete for the Lady Stout Trophy – unfortunately it stayed in Wellington!

The next day we had our 36 Hole Mixed 4Somes Open.  The winning combination with the best gross were Ju Allen & Kirk Collins, 2nd Pip Kirk & Andrew Smith and 3rd Anna Possenniskie & Martin Napier.  Best nett went to Britta Fraser & Garth Lippitt, 2nd Ro & Lyle Griffiths and 3rd Bindy & Lachie McLeod.  Best Stableford went to Julie Weber & Trevor Petersen, 2nd Nicola & Richard Warren and 3rd Jo Loe & Colin Whibley-Smith.

The day after that the men travelled over to Royal Wellington to compete for the Bidwill/Leckie Cup which also stayed in Wellington!

We also held our Club Championships – the winning ladies were:

Anna Possenniskie – Silver, Jo Loe – Bronze A, Louise Smith – Bronze B, Jenny Wilkie – Vets

Mens winners were:  Tony Russo – Seniors, George Kirk – Intermediates, Dayle Scrimshaw – Juniors, Rick Hargreaves – Vets.

In between all this, weekly competitions have continued.  Grumpies have been getting good numbers each week with Sandy Bidwill, Greg Dalton and Bob Schofield all winners.  Twos have gone to Sandy, Greg, Bob and Andy Morison.

Thursday Club has also been well supported with Raymond Matthews, Davis Lester Clarke and Rob Smith winning.  Twos have gone to James Elworthy (2), Kris Chamberlain (2), Nick Allen, Doug Clark, Alistair Petrie, Malcolm Wood, Chris Handley, Jason Burt, Pete Price, Richard Thompson, Rick Hargreaves, Alison Sim, Doug Ferguson, Brent McKinlay, Malcolm Bridge, Mariana McDermott and Bob Lindberg.

This coming weekend we have the final of the mens and ladies Shoot Out and 12th December is Closing Day – and that will be another year done and dusted.

In January we are hosting the Spark Pro Am and we already have a full entry list for this – and so another year will begin.

That’s it from me – to everyone have a safe and merry Christmas and a happy new year.
