Martinborough Golf February round-up

March 15, 2019 March 2019 No Comments

As the shortest month is under our belt and we officially head into the first month of autumn the weather has been pleasantly warm.  The course is looking supreme – as long as you can hit straight (even a drop-kick or duff shot) the ball rolls forever down the fairways, the greens are holding beautifully and are looking better than ever – a credit to Tim and his team!

Club opening day was a success with random drawn partnerships playing holes 1-6 ambrose, 7-12 4BBB and 13-18 foursomes. The winners were Captain Andy & Ann Hume 63, 2nd Lizzy Thomson & Malcolm Henderson 56, 3rd Sally Fairbrother & Bindy McLeod 55, 4th Tora & Lizzy Goodall 54. I understand the Morisons with various others provided great entertainment.

The Grumpies have played on some pretty mercury busting days (mad-dogs and Englishmen?!), winners have been:- Ro Griffiths, Elaine Howe, Mariana McDermott, Rob McCreary and Murray Blackwell.

Thursday club continues to pull in some good numbers – generally hitting the 50 mark – there have been some mind-blowing scores, 40 points doesn’t generally get a look in on the prizes!! Winners have included Mariana McDermott & Bob Schofield, Johnny Grey, Alec Dondertman and Pete Griffiths.

Men’s interclub is well underway and the div 5 boys have continued on their merry way last weekend with a whopping 11-4 win away to Wainuiomata and now lead by 13 points after four rounds.  A solid 6 points for the division 11 team away to Trentham.  Keep it up boys!

Ladies opening day saw a mix of 9 and 18 hole players take to the course for a Las Vegas Ambrose competition over 13 holes.  The dice didn’t always roll as hoped and lead to some interesting playing positions. The girls did well at the Wellington Women’s 36 hole Open.  Div 1, 1st Ju Allen 2nd Marilyn MacKenzie.  Div 2, 1st nett Marie Scrimshaw, and 1st stableford Karen Shaw.  Sandra Petersen was 2nd nett in Div 1.

Coming soon…. the 2019 St John Wairarapa Charity Golf Tournament, for entry and tournament details for this popular charity event to be held at Martinborough Golf Club on Friday 5th April 2019 go to the website http://martinboroughgolfclub.co.nz/ or see Sue in the office.  This is a really fun day out and always has a full field so get in early!!
