MARTINBOROUGH GOLF REPORT

May 10, 2021 May 2021, Sports No Comments

It is amazing how quickly the course changes over a matter of days – fairways have gone from brown to green and there is definitely not as much run as there was last month.  The greens were cored a couple of weeks ago and are coming back well.

Tuesdays have seen good numbers turning up to play Grumpies with some very impressive scores coming in.  Winners over the last few weeks have been Jack Allen, Rick Hargreaves and Paul Riddiford.  Twos have gone to Nick Allen, Bill Jones, Paul Riddiford (2), Barry Johnson, Bill Jago and Brian Russo.

The Ladies have also been getting good numbers with Karen Shaw and Jane Terpstra both being winners.  Last Wednesday the Ladies played Aotearoa Cup – Silver Division was taken out by Sherry Weatherstone on a countback to Jo Loe, Nicola Warren won the Bronze Division.  Coronation Medal was won by Sherry Weatherstone and in the Vets Trophy Silver Division Sherry once again was the winner with Mariana McDermott taking out the Bronze Division.  Twos this month have gone to Karen Shaw, Alison Tipler and Jo Loe.

The 9 holers are continuing to go from strength to strength with Katrina Burgess and Jenny Tosswill both winners this month.   A number of them also went to Masterton recently to play in the Southey Honda 9 Hole Tournament which they all enjoyed despite not coming away with any prizes.

Weekend competitions are getting well supported on Sundays with Alec Dondertman, Alan King, George Kirk and Malcolm Wood all winners.  Three people have won the Birds Nest this month, namely John Warner and last Sunday Andy Morison and Dayle Scrimshaw

Interclub teams are doing well with Division 4 half a point behind the leaders and Division 11 sitting in the middle of the table both having a couple of rounds left to play.

The Ladies Bronze Combo team have finished interclub for the season with the Silvers having three more rounds to play.

A couple of weeks ago we hosted the St Johns Ambrose which had 33 teams playing.  The winning team of Ivan Karaitiana, Stu Northe, Nicholas Harding and Geoff Ewington coming in with a nett 52.25 from Doug Clark, Stu Taplin, Bevan Sweeney and Carl Petersen on 54.37 and Scott Reid, Shane Hartnell, Craig Colton and Nigel Malneek on 57.75.  Golf was followed by an auction with all the items being donated by local businesses.  A huge thank you to all those that donated items and also to all who played.

Coming up at the end of next month is the Eastwood Motor Group Beef & Burgundy Ambrose (Sunday 30th May), field is limited to 36 teams and we are already over the half way mark so if you want to play you need to email your entry to:  entries@martinboroughgolfclub.co.nz as soon as possible.
