Martinborough Lions got into the Christmas Spirit

February 9, 2021 February 2021 No Comments

Martinborough Lions Club wound up the year by partnering with the Foodbank to fund, assemble and deliver some nice Christmas Hampers of goodies to all the Foodbank participants in Martinborough. Foodbank reported that there were lots of people with smiley faces picking up their hampers, also some tears and hugs. For many people it’s been a tough year.

Martinborough Lions realised this and planned and did something about it  for Christmas. Let’s keep that momentum up and look out for each other, particularly those in our village who are on their own or find themselves in difficult circumstances this festive season.
Lions also supported the very successful Martinborough Christmas Street Parade held on Saturday 12th December, and we had our annual Christmas Lunch for older folk on 2nd December in the Lions Hall.

A very enjoyable Lions Christmas party was held at “The Pavilion” Peppers Parehua on Saturday 6th December. The team there looked after us well and a big thanks went out to the entertainment committee for organising such a nice event for us. Well done team!

Lions Predator Trapping out at Palliser Bay continues with a noticeable increase in bird life around the trapping area. The team were recently treated to the sight of some rare Black Fronted Dotterel chicks with very protective parents all feeding in a ponded area. This gave us added impetus to step up the trapping, but also to ensure that seabird nesting areas around the coast are not disturbed by livestock or vehicles as well.

Preparations are underway for an ungraded Skyline Challenge on the hills to the east of Martinborough on 25th April. Mountain Bikers, walkers and runners should put this date in their diary now.

Martinborough Lions are keen to attract new members. Fellowship and Community Service are high on our priority list. People are welcome to come along to a couple of meetings to check us out at no cost. Anyone wanting to know more please contact Joe Howells on 027 597 2667 or Terry Blacktop on 06 306 8568
