February really was a delightful warm summer month, and Martinborough had many visitors enjoying all the delights that our town and countryside has to offer.

First Church Sunday services have almost become a “drop in” cafe, as visitors to town join us in our hall for a relaxed and friendly time of worship with morning tea. It’s very interesting to meet new people, hear where they’re from and what brings them to Martinborough.

Sometimes there are family connections, and fascinating stories are told. In First Church’s almost 150 years, it has played a part in the lives of many people and families which grew up in and around Martinborough through weddings,  baptisms, Sunday School, Bible Class and all the social life that revolves round a parish church which is so much a part of the history of the town.

First Church will celebrate 150 years of existence in 2021, and we are beginning to gather stories, reminiscences and old photos of the earlier years, to fill out “our story”. Please contact us with any contribution – see email address below.

The First Church Country Goodies stall had a very successful day in February, and the team will have been in action again on the first Saturday in March – at the time of writing it’s not at all certain what the weather will be like, but we have such a long tradition of “being at the fair” every year from 1977 (42 years ago!) that it would be strange for us not to have our stall there.  We love to have a presence at these busy fairs and enjoy meeting and chatting to all who come by, and are proud to promote our good home baking, garden produce and seasonal preserves.

A date to note in your diary:        Sunday 14th April , 2pm  at First Church

Following the success of the combined churches Christmas service which was enjoyed by so many, a Combined Martinborough Churches Easter Service will be held on Sunday afternoon the 14th April 2pm at First Church.  Every church will be involved and contribute to what will be a very uplifting and thoughtful time together with all church friends on the Sunday before Easter.
