We have been blessed this Easter with Rev Dr James Veitch taking a service on Good Friday at First Church and then again on Easter Sunday at Burnside in Pirinoa.

We met at 10am on Good Friday – following the story of the last hours of Jesus as told through the gospel of Mark.

On Easter Sunday we met at First Church at 9.15am and carpooled down to Burnside and joined members of the Burnside community for a 10am service.

On Sunday the 24th we held our service in the church and then all went across to the hall for lunch of various soups, pumpkin, beef & Veg, pea & ham, to name a few, which were all home made by members of the parish.  This was accompanied by a lovely selection of scrumptious breads donated by Jo Crabb (Martinborough Bakery).

Then this was followed by a showing of “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace”, conducted by Sir Karl Jenkins. The piece was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum, it was dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. The whole film is very moving when so close to ANZAC day and the music and accompanying singing adds to the atmosphere and the starkness of those times.

The mass ends on a note of hope, drawing on the hard-won understanding that peace is better than war. The link to watch this is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOf4agIPSyU

Upcoming Events – we are pleased to advise that we will be holding a Mini Book Fair in the Church Hall on Saturday the 21st May from 10am till 2pm. Other items for sale will be available on the day as well. Please note this date in your diaries.  Any donations of books and other goods would be appreciated, and we look forward to seeing you all on the day.
