Over $10,000 in Rotary community grants

February 9, 2021 February 2021 No Comments

South Wairarapa Rotary has recently granted over $10,000 to the local community.  All grants were based on helping the community with Covid-19 recovery

South Wairarapa Rotary granted $4,520 to the Wharekaka Trust Board in Martinborough to assist with the purchase of a new commercial grade washing machine and dryer for its Age Care facility in Martinborough, recognising the extra need for cleanliness under Covid19.

South Wairarapa Rotary also granted $4,951 to the Featherston Community Centre to help upgrade their office facilities in Featherston to a level suitable for the extra level of counselling and social activity programmes resulting from Covid.

The third grant was to Wairarapa Citizens Advice Bureau for $1,050, to assist with the costs of servicing client enquiries within the South Wairarapa area.

Rotary has also just awarded its annual Martinborough Fair bursaries to two local students from Kuranui College to assist them with their university studies in 2021.  The bursaries went to Melanie Redfern and Maaike Smolnicki.

South Wairarapa Rotary makes grants totalling almost $100,000 every year, using the proceeds from the Rotary organised Martinborough Fairs.  The Fairs will be held as usual on the first Saturday in February and March 2021.     South Wairarapa Rotary can be contacted through its website  swrotary.org.nz
