Neighbours Day

The New Zealand Red Cross are a proud partner of Neighbours Day Aotearoa.

The kaupapa of Neighbours Day Aotearoa is to encourage people to get to know their neighbours better.  This year’s theme is The Great Plant Swap as we want neighbourhoods to grow stronger together.

On Wednesday  March 31, from 10am the Martinborough Red Cross, in conjunction with Neighbourhood Support and the South Wairarapa District Council are hosting an event at the Martinborough Community Gardens, 51 Oxford Street, Martinborough.

People can swap anything garden-growing related and morning tea will be provided. Everyone is welcome even if they have nothing to sell

We would especially encourage our newest neighbours to come along and get to know more about the amazing community we have here in Carterton. There will be a demonstration and some tips and tricks around preserving your garden produce. It’s also a great opportunity to wander around the wonderful community gardens.

There will be other things happening on the day and we plan to provide a light morning tea on the day.

The bigger goal of Neighbours Day is people connecting with their neighbours so they can support each other in emergencies or times of need and to enhance community resilience.  As part of its disaster risk management activities, Red Cross encourages everyone to be good and ready – being prepared before disaster strikes.  Being good and ready isn’t only about water and tinned food, it’s also about being connected in your community.

“Come together to be good and ready this Neighbours Day”
