Remember: stock the shelf with good books

December 9, 2024 December 2024 No Comments

Wairarapa Library Service libraries will be closing on Friday 20 December for the Christmas/New Year period and will re-open at 9:30 a.m. on Monday 6 January.

So remember to come in ahead of time to stock up on all your holiday reading, as well as DVDs and puzzles for the occasional rainy day!

If you happen to run out of reading material while we’re closed, you can access our digital collection instead. With the Libby app, you can browse and borrow from thousands of e-books, e-magazines and audiobooks.

And it’s a much more travel-friendly alternative to weighing your luggage down with books. If you need help installing and using Libby, just pop into your nearest library and we’ll see you right.

Why not combine outdoor fun and reading during the holidays? Most of you already enjoy the StoryWalk® at Martinborough’s Considine Park. Now another StoryWalk® has just been installed at Carterton’s Carrington Park featuring the much-loved story, “We’re going on a moa hunt,” by Patrick McDonald.

A fun activity for the whole family, StoryWalk® combines the benefits of outdoor exercise and reading to promote overall well-being.  Follow the story from one wooden post to another, see if you can guess what happens next, and race each other to the next post, or proceed at a more leisurely pace and let the anticipation build. Pack a picnic, don’t forget hats and sunscreen, and it’s a great day out for everyone.

We wish everyone a happy and safe holiday and look forward to seeing you in 2025 _ and before.
