Rimutaka Country Music Group

Hi everyone. We had a fantastic turnout for our May gathering which was great to see. Kapi-Mana Country Music Association visited us, as did elements of Wainuiomata Country and Western Music Club, Upper Hutt Country Music Club and a few others. We had over 70 people present, many of whom were artists, which made for a most entertaining afternoon of country music.
Our guest artist, John de Burgh from Fielding, went down very well with a great selection (and variety) of country songs, smooth vocals and, all the while, playing guitar. His singing and humour was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Sincere thanks to John for helping make the afternoon such a great success. We look forward to hosting him again sometime.

Looking ahead we have Dougie and Nancy Warren from Wellington entertaining as our guest artists on 27 July. Capable country music artists in their own right, they bring a passion for the more traditional, though no less entertaining, style of country music.

Dougie and Nancy have been around the Wellington country music scene for many years, and are widely respected both in the local country music community and further afield. They each run their own, but mutually supporting, country music clubs in Wellington, and host an annual country music event to raise money for charity. Dougie and Nancy will perform both individually and as a duo, which we very much look forward to.

The Rimutaka Country Music Group gather on the fourth Saturday of the month (except December) at Messines Bar & Restaurant, 57 Fox Street, Featherston. It is run on a ‘walk up’ (also known as ‘open mic’) format with a live backing band, meaning that if you wish to sing a song or play an instrumental, you can get up and have a go. If you’d rather just sit and listen to live country music, that’s fine too. A modest $2.00 door charge per person (18 and over) applies.
