Rotary District Governor’s visit

March 19, 2018 March 2018 No Comments

South Wairarapa Rotary hosted the District 9940 Governor in February. The meeting was held at Cobblestones in Greytown where the Friends of Cobblestone group catered for the over 80 members and guests who attended. DG Mitch Brown addressed the assembled guests and outlined his vision for the coming year.

President Mary Mason took the opportunity to induct four people into the Paul Harris Fellowship.  The gift of a special Paul Harris Pin, medallion and citation recognize this highly esteemed recognition award.

New Zealand Rotary Clubs use the Paul Harris Fellowship to recognize people in our clubs and people who interact with our clubs and the community, for exceptional service.

This year, our club recognized four outstanding community and club members

  • Jacqui Sutherland, for her many community services but especially her service to the Cancer Society, growing and donating thousands of Daffodils each year.
  • Toby Hempleman, for his many years unstinting service to this club and to many other clubs and organisations throughout the Wairarapa in his capacity as accountant and various governance roles.
  • Jenny Toswill, for her multiple roles in the ambulance and related community service organisations and her dedication to victim support
  • Vicki Eckford, for service in the less glamourous aspects of Martinborough Fair and to the club

Fire Service grant

The Martinborough Fire service was presented with a cheque for $5,000 to go towards the outfitting their 4WD quick response vehicle which will be used in responding to emergencies in otherwise inaccessible locations.
