Leaving a Lasting Legacy

An update on our fund raising over this Inner Wheel year, June 2017-June 2018, to select and substantially help at least one local girl to participate in a course at Outward Bound, Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds.

The money we made at our first-ever Silent Auction was earmarked for this purpose and we were very pleased to inform you that we raised enough to send three more girls, thanks to Outward Bound and their funders. The selection process has been ongoing, but the first of the successful applicants has now finished her course and will be speaking at an Inner Wheel meeting in the near future.

A huge thank you once again to the community, businesses and individuals of Wairarapa that made our Silent Auction such a success. Whether it was through contributions of goods or vouchers, attending on the day, spreading the word or donations. It all helped us to achieve this great outcome.

Lake Ferry Hotel – yummy lunch with a view

It was lovely to lunch with many Inner Wheel Members and guests at Lake Ferry Hotel in mid-January. The weather was great and the company even better. Some of us were lucky enough to spot a couple of seals basking in the sun, out on the spit. Such a special place! It was good to hear the volume go up in the Bar, as we all caught up with each other after the Christmas break.

We all ate the fish and chip meal, which certainly verified the Pub’s reputation for the freshest catch in the Wairarapa. I know it was a first visit for some of our members, but am sure it won’t be the last.

Other fund raising

Our long standing arrangement with South Wairarapa Rotary continues, as we gear up to cater for the organisers at the second Martinborough Fair for the year, on Saturday 3 March. February’s Fair was a huge success as usual, with the weather kindly obliging us with a fine, but not stifling hot day. Let’s hope for something similar for the next one!
