South Wairarapa Tramping Club

June 12, 2014 June 2014 No Comments

Good autumn weather has contributed to some excellent club trips.
On 12 April 16 members walked into the Atiwhakatu Hut. It began raining while we were having lunch so the party came out fairly promptly. DOC has done a lot of work on the track and there are several new and impressive bridges. Altogether an excellent short walk.
On 26 April 20 members travelled to Somes Island. The weather was perfect and the party enjoyed several hours exploring the island and the various historic sites including gun emplacements and the remains of the quarantine station.

On 3 May the club organised a bike ride from Carterton to Carterton Reserve and return. Five energetic members enjoyed the trip. This trip replaced the proposed Kapiti Section, Te Araroa Trail due to the forecast weather in Wellington.

Planned trips for May are as follows.
7 June, Regional Council tree planting day at Lake Wairarapa Domain. John Rhodes, 06 304 9095. Bring a spade.
14 June, Blue Range Hut/Kiriwhakapapa. Bill Dolan, 06 306 9221.
21 June, Fort Dorset/Eastern Walkway (Wellington). Ian and Rosie Montgomerie, 06 304 9252.
28 June, Mangatoetoe Stream, Cape Palliser. Frances Pike, 027 330 6358.

Interested persons are most welcome. Please phone the nominated leader by the Thursday evening prior to the trip.
Please phone Lynne King for upcoming trip details and confirmations (04 478 7795). For general enquiries regarding the club’s activities call Ed Cooke, Club President (06 304 9497) or Carol Major, Club Secretary (06 304 8210).
