Tennis Club sports latest Automated External Defibrillator

February 21, 2025 February 2025 No Comments

Martinborough Lawn Tennis Club (MLTC) is having an AED (Automated External Defibrillator – aka heart restarter) – installed just inside the gate at the corner of Naples Street and Regent Street. This will be for the use of anyone playing tennis and of course for the use of the Martinborough community.

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are truly amazing. Anyone can experience an unexpected

cardiac arrest, even the fittest of athletes, irrespective of age.

AEDs are now such, that with minimal knowledge or training, if the instructions are followed anyone can use them and so significantly improve the chances of survival.

This is very important if you are playing the game to win the match and your partner needs resuscitation for match point.

There are already at least 10 AEDs around Martinborough but with cardiac events, speed and time is of the essence.

It is a fantastic asset to everyone in Martinborough. A mention must be made to all the incredibly generous people, both members of MLTC and non-members, some not from Martinborough, who have given substantial amounts of money to make this possible.

MLTC also received wonderful grants from Trust House Masterton, Martinborough Lions and Martinborough Mitre 10, who kindly provided the timber for the frame on which the AED is mounted. Without such kindness this essential project would not have been completed so quickly.

As well as the fantastic financial kindness there are a few people who have assisted in this project in a big way. To them, and everyone else – huge HEARTfelt thanks.

If you would like to know where all AEDs are in New Zealand download the app ‘AED Locations’ and you can see if there is one near your next holiday location!!

AED Training:

There will be two training sessions: Tuesday 18 February: 09:30 – 11:00 a.m; Monday 24 February 18:00 – 19:30 p.m. Venue: Martinborough Fire Station training rooms. Maximum number: 25.

As this is a ‘community AED’, the training sessions are open to everyone, so please register your interest to attend at mltcaedtraining@gmail.com
