WBS MARTINBOROUGH FC – UPDATE

June 11, 2018 June2018, Sports No Comments

It has been a while since I last wrote about the club and we have had a few changes – mainly with a newly formed committee to oversee both the Junior and Senior teams and ensure that moving forward we continue to grow as a Community based club.

We have 6 Junior teams entered in various grades this year and they kicked off their campaigns a few weeks ago and have performed exceptionally well to date – I have had the pleasure in watching most of them so far and each player has worn their shirt and represented Martinborough with pride.

The Junior Festival was held here on 26th May (with 2 more to follow) and we had a fantastic turn out and would also like to thank the team at Mitre 10 for the BBQ and the team at P & K for the food as it is always appreciated.

I would also like to give a special mention to Matt and his team at Burger Craft here in Martinborough as they are an additional sponsor of the Senior team and the club looks forward to supporting Matt and his team as much as he is looking forward to supporting us.

The Senior side started back in early April (in the Wairarapa 2nd Division) and currently sit second out of the 6 teams with 4 wins from 7 matches – please come down and support if you can (match schedules will be on our Facebook page).

The Senior side also entered the Chatham Cup this year and we were the lowest ranked affiliated club side in the competition for 2018. Unfortunately we drew Kapiti Coast United in the first round and they play in the Capital Premier League (some 7 divisions higher than us) – however it was a good experience for the team and we are hoping to have them come over to play a friendly once the season has finished (photo shows both teams in a combined photo prior to kick off).

Please keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates and info.

We are still looking for local sponsors/funders to enable us to purchase additional equipment and assist with the running of the club – if you or anyone you know is interested please get in touch with Paul Brandon via the club email martinboroughfc@gmail.com or via our Facebook page.
