Welcome Home – It’s Good to be Back’

August 21, 2019 August 2019 No Comments

MADCAPS – Martinborough and Districts Company of Amateur Players is back for 2019. And we are back in the town hall. After all the wait, the for and against, Martinborough finally has the Waihenga centre.  It’s been 4 years since the last MADCAPS production was in the town hall and even that, with the restrictions placed on the hall due to the upcoming renovations was a one-night show only.

This years production is a variety show written and produced by MADCAPS President and local musician Shayne Cater. Shayne decided is was fitting to centre the theme of the show around the town hall refurbishment and the newly appointed Waihenga Centre including the Library, Information Centre and Café.

The show will be musically based featuring the superb voices of the Maynard Twins, Steve Lewis and a host of other local favourites like Jacky Nathu and Murray Parker. It’s a real family affair this year with David and Jody McCartney’s clan all involved. This is their first foray into MADCAPS but Jody and David bring over 25 years of production experience with them as well as their huge voices. John (JP) Priest is back leading the skits as well as a special appearance from a local Martinborough retailer and stories and poems from Dave Harris.

Shaun McGillicuddy has stepped away from the mixing and lighting desk for this year show to be the director. Shaun’s 35 years’ experience in MADCAPS has been the glue that has enabled a small committee, with limited production experienced pull off what the company hopes will be a fitting showcase for the return to our wonderful town hall.

Local Band Short Circuit will again be providing the live backing. It’s all coming together and MADCAPS is so excited. It’s Good to be Back!

We love the support we receive from the Martinborough Community and look forward to entertaining them with our latest show.

Welcome Home – It’s Good to be Back is over 3 nights, August 15, 16 and 17.  Tickets can be purchased from the Martinborough information centre i-site in the Waihenga centre.
