Wharekaka Auxiliary: boosting Meals on Wheels – October 2024

October 7, 2024 October 2024 No Comments

Based on deliveries, some 8,000-odd hot meals and desserts each year feed elderly residents and others from the Meals on Wheels kitchen in Martinborough.

In this edition, Wharekaka Auxiliary point out in their advertisement that “it’s time” to think about your Christmas goodies.

“Why don’t you let the Wharekaka Auxiliary help you out with your baking and feel good by supporting their and Masonic Village’s Meals on Wheels programme?”

Wharekaka Auxiliary have run their successful Christmas baking in aid of Meals on Wheels for the past three years.

For this year’s “goodies” offering, they have chosen the most successful goodies from previous  experience and are waiting for your order.

Meals on Wheels has been running for about 50 years from the Wharekaka kitchen. It supplies a hot meal and dessert in the middle of the day to older residents and those unable to leave their homes easily in Martinborough, Featherston and Greytown.

This happens five days a week year round _ except for public holidays.

The programme is strongly supported by Masonic Trust who run the Wharekaka Village and the meals are delivered by volunteers from the three towns. Around 600 – 700 meals are delivered each month.

Check out the advertisement in The Star to order your Christmas goodies. All money raised will go towards Meals on Wheels.
