Wharekaka Dining Room Expands

July 8, 2013 July 2013 No Comments

Wharekaka-dining-roomAn exciting new development is underway at Wharekaka, but one that few in the community will be aware of because of its location behind the main building.

The dining room at Wharekaka is undergoing a major expansion to give greater space and a more pleasant environment for residents’ mealtimes. The dining room itself will be about twice its original size, and a large outdoor deck is to be constructed beyond that.

Doors onto the deck will allow for indoor/outdoor dining, particularly in the summer months, and encourage residents to spend more time outside. The outlook from the existing dining room into trees and the Wharekaka garden is a very pleasant one, and will be even more so with the extensions completed.

Although the present dining room has been adequate for the residents of the home, it cannot accommodate villa residents and other visitors, who come over for special occasions. The extension will allow for events such as the recent midwinter solstice lunch to be held in the dining room rather than everything having to be moved down to the dayroom. In future the new dining room will be able to host such events in style.
