WHAREKAKA NEWS

Happy New Year to you all.
It is hard to believe that we are now at the end of January as I write this.
Life at Wharekaka has been busy as usual for our family. We have enjoyed drives in the van to see all the building development around the town. We had a visit from the kindergarten children who made Christmas decorations for our tree.

Our Christmas lunch saw residents enjoy a festive feast created by Don our cook. The annual Trust Board family and resident BBQ was held early December in the recently extended dining room. The feedback on how bright and spacious this room is now, together with the deck area was very positive. Residents have enjoyed utilising the deck on sunny afternoons.

We welcome our new Activities Coordinator, Jay. Jay has relocated to Featherston from Lower Hutt with his young child and partner. We have been fortunate to have Wendy return to Wharekaka as a caregiver and assist Jay.

Our Wharekaka Auxiliary has been busy during the festive season. The Auxiliary provided refreshments for the Rotary Club of South Wairarapa who entertained the residents with a rousing medley of Christmas carols.
January saw the new Dining room filled to capacity for the annual New Year lunch cooked and served by the Auxiliary. The juicy ham, succulent roasted tomatoes, lovely salads and tiny new potatoes followed homemade ice-cream and berries were enjoyed by all; not to mention the superb Martinborough Wines!
An exciting visit to Waituna is planned for February to visit the old homestead and gardens.

If you are interested in being part of the Wharekaka community on a volunteer basis, please contact Helen Meehan on 306 9074, Barbie Cox on 306 9934 or Anne Parkinson on 306 8105.

Are you caring for an elderly family member? Have you considered day-care (we can collect you in our van and return you home in the afternoon) or respite care? You can have a break while we take care of your loved one, ensuring piece of mind. To find out more about what we can offer you or your loved one please contact the General Manager on 06 306 9781.

Did you know Wharekaka is the only aged care facility in the South Wairarapa to offer a complete retirement package. There is currently a two bedroom villa for sale by Occupation Right Agreement and rooms available for either short or long term occupancy in the facility. Please contact the General Manager on 306 9781 for more information.
