Wharekaka Volunteer Programme

February 17, 2020 February 2020 No Comments

Wharekaka has 21 elderly and frail residents, many of whom need hospital level care. We have decided that 2020 is the year we strengthen and formalise our volunteer engagement, to ensure that our residents have the best opportunities to engage with our caring and supportive Martinborough and District community.

We want to reach out to those of you who have the time and motivation to support our residents. You will be offered training and guidance and regular sessions to ensure that are able to fulfill your role and not only give to the Wharekaka community, but enrich your own life.

One of these roles is a ‘Dining Buddy’. This role arises because of the need for good nutrition and hydration. A midday meal in the dining room is provided, but some of our residents have a poor appetite, failing co-ordination, and struggle to make the most of the main meal of the day.

Either of these roles will provide a fulfilling, rewarding activity for a volunteer, regardless of how much time can be given.

Please contact Sally by phone (063069071), or at reception@wharekaka.org for application from and further details.
