Winter in the Wairarapa

July 12, 2021 July 2021 No Comments

It’s been a discussion point over a few years now that our retail and hospitality business falls away during the winter months and in particular the month of August. A month too when there is an absence of any events/promotions.

The Martinborough Business Association (MBA) has been chewing this over and looking for potential solutions to get a better spread of events that drive our local businesses across the year.

The Association thinks that there is scope for a promotion of Winter in the Wairarapa (possibly promoted by Destination Wairarapa) funnelling this into  Winter in Martinborough. .We’d be looking to promote events across the month of August 2022 pitching our marketing into target audiences and areas  such as Wellington and Hawkes Bay regions… potentially others too.

We have a wonderful asset in Memorial Square and our thinking would be to use this as the show piece. We’ve got proven capability in the town to help make this a great experience. We will be reaching out to that capability to help us.

It’s early days in our thinking but we are imagining four themes across the weekends of August  and structured in a way that we can “rinse and repeat” in the years that follow. We want to make this a combined community and business event so if you’ve got some ideas and/or want to give us a hand click on  infor@martinboroughnz.com and let us know.

Martinborough saw success with the Olive and Market festival which proved in the years that it ran to be a popular event. This would be a new opportunity to recreate a night time market event like that, with the ability to promote our wine and olive industries. The Dark Skies project also presents wonderful creative opportunities to showcase the magic of Winter in Martinborough.

A celebration too that both locals and visitors can experience.
