FIRE BRIGADE REPORT

June 12, 2023 June 2023, Regular Features No Comments

This month saw another 9 members of our Brigade start their 200 hour journey into Medical First response training, with our training and response partner Wellington Free Ambulance. If you seek medical help don’t be surprised if we introduce one of these trainees who are all keen to start to put their learning’s into practice.

All our Medical First Responders and some of our Firefighters undertake monthly online skills courses offer by Fire and Emergency as part of their ongoing development.

We continue on with our calls, and it looks like we might get close to 300 this year, we are already at over 115 before the end of May.

A special thanks to those anonymous donors who drop off donations and supper for us, we really appreciate you.

This month we introduce another of our new Firefighters, Jason Clements. Jason is a self employed IT Contractor, who moved into Martinborough about 12 months ago, and was looking to continue his volunteer service to the community (he was a Police Special Constable during the 13 years he lived in the UK) and came to us at one of the fairs. Frequently working from home Jason is regularly available during the day when we can often find ourselves short, and brings not only truck driving skills but also helicopter skills gathered during his 14 years in the Air Force which included 3 years at sea with the Navy as Flight Deck Crew.

Jason says he has always tried to volunteer in some capacity in the community, says it has been a great way to meet new people in town, and that it’s amazing to be part of a team that is so widely appreciated by everyone.
