February 16, 2017 February 2017 No Comments

The 2016/17 season is well underway with club nights resuming at 6pm from Monday 30th January at Card Reserve in Featherston. Numbers are strong with 100 children registered from schools across South Wairarapa. In December we had a very successful duathlon to mark the end of the season.

In 2017 we are pleased to be initiating a great community event 10am Sunday 26th February in memory of Featherston stalwart Ron Hughes who gave over 45 years support to athletics and also contributed to rugby and other community initiatives.

This event will not only keep alive the memories of Ron, but all funds raised will go towards supporting one of Ron’s passions local junior sports people. Assisting them to compete in regional and national events and train with good quality equipment.

This is a great opportunity to bring the South Wairarapa community together for a fun filled active day. The competition is open to teams (Family, School, Street, Sports clubs, businesses) or individuals. You can enter as few or many events as you want from 100m, 400m, 1500m, Relay, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot put and discus. We promise spot prizes and lots of fun.

Saturday 25th February sees the annual children’s Triathlon at Card Reserve. Entries are limited. The event will conclude with a prize giving and sausage sizzle. If you are keen to enter the events, provide a spot prize, volunteer at them or on club nights please visit our facebook page or contact info@athleticsfeatherston.org.nz or Kim on 3077881 or 0274 129 299.
In March we are taking a team to the Wellington Regionals so if you have children keen to enter it is not too late to come down and join in club nights.
