Leaving a Lasting Legacy

As mentioned in last month’s edition, it has been the intention of our Inner Wheel Club to significantly change the life of at least one local girl by substantially helping her to participate in a course at Outward Bound. The great news is that by the time you read this, three local girls will have been on this fantastic course.

We invited Kyra, our first recipient, to speak at our last monthly meeting and were hugely encouraged by her words. She spoke warmly and enthusiastically about her life-changing experience on the course. From the challenge of fund-raising to the work experience she undertook in order to make her own financial contribution to the course fee, Kyra was eloquent in her praise and appreciation of this unique opportunity. 

She described some of the highlights and challenges she had had to face on the course, some while working as part of a team and some, like overnighting in the bush, on her own! Character building! 

We were left in no doubt of the huge value of this project, that will certainly Leave A Lasting Legacy. Jade and Olivia, our next recipients, are now ready to experience Outward Bound.

On another note, we also invited two Solomon Islands women, Mary and Pam/Joy? Who are part of a team of seasonal pickers who work in the Apple Orchards of Greytown annually. 

They described how this work impacts on their lives as they leave their homes, hand over the domestic chores to their husbands and work alongside other Solomon Islands pickers. It was interesting to gain some insight into their lives, so different to our own in many respects.
