Martinborough Mens Shed

May 23, 2018 May 2018 No Comments

L- R Derek Wilson, Ted Colenso, Griff Page and Adrian Blackett standing next to the photo of the Square as it was between 1907 – 1914.
The photos and crosses will remain in the Square until approximately the 12th May.

The Mens Shed were asked to assist the Martinborough Community Board with their ANZAC project.  The project was to commemorate the end of WWI and to compliment the white crosses that lead up to the cenotaph.

The idea was to show people and events relating to WWI but reflecting the Martinborough residents who were involved in this. The ‘Boys leaving Home’ photo taken just before they left for overseas, shows families inside the Town Hall as it was in those days. The photo’s were sourced from history held with Mate Higginson and the Wairarapa Archives.

The Mens Shed was asked to make the framing and stands for the photo’s.  This was a huge task and involved a large number of our members who worked tirelessly in the shed to build the framing and then some of those members erected the finished product in the Square.
