Martinborough Junior Hockey – 2018 Results and Prizegiving

October 3, 2018 October 2018, Sports No Comments

We’ve had a really successful hockey season this year with two of our five teams winning their grade in the primary competition at Clareville, and one team placing runners-up.  Our Martinborough Green team won the C-grade of the ½ field competition and our Marty Rockets team won the B-grade of the 6-aside quarter field competition.  The 1st XI team made it to the final of the A-grade competition but were defeated 4-0 by top of the table winners, MIS Blue, in an exciting match.  Congratulations to all of the players, coaches and managers of these teams.

We held our prizegiving and breakup on 3 September.  A big thank you to all the coaches and managers for their time and commitment to their teams at weekly games and practices, and to all the parents and families for your support.  Well done to all our trophy winners this year:

We have received a grant of $1,170 from the Sports NZ Rural Travel Fund which will be returned to players in the form of fuel vouchers.  We are extremely grateful for this grant and its contribution towards the cost of players travelling to games at the Clareville turf during the season.

Rep hockey training is in full swing, with the U13 tournaments being held throughout New Zealand in the second week of the October school holidays.  Good luck to all the players and teams in those tournaments.  Twilight hockey kicks off next term on Wednesday 31 October for all primary year levels – a great way for the kids to keep up their fitness and practice their skills ready for the 2019 season!

If you have any questions or feedback about the junior hockey season, please contact Pippa Broom (Co-ordinator for Martinborough Hockey) on 0274 169 102.
