Football Club’s season ends with a shield

Senior Football Club Shield Winners 2020

Martinborough Football Clubs senior season concluded in style on 19th September with a 3-2 win against Douglas Villa in Masterton.  The team were delighted to have won theWairarapa Knockout Shield which is now proudly displayed at its Club rooms at Cool Change Bar & Eatery. Spokesperson Lucy Douglas said, “It’s been my first season with the club. Despite facing some tough opposition and losing more games than we’ve won, the team has shown some great character and has been very welcoming of newcomers”.

Presentation of the end of season senior awards were made at Cool Change on 26th September.  Winners were; Club-person of the Year: Paul Brandon, Golden Boot: Carl Whitby (for the fourth year in a row) & Players Player of the year: Paul Ivory.  A special note of thanks was made to Paul Brandon who is stepping back from both competition and management.  Paul set up the club four years ago and had worked tirelessly toward the establishment and the ongoing running of the club.

Martinborough Football Club would like to thank it’s season’s sponsors for their support; Cool Change, Pain & Kershaw : Four Square, Mitre 10 & Neighbourhood Café. South Wairarapa District Council have done an excellent job in overseeing the maintenance of sports fields at Coronation Park.

On 31st October the club hosted the 2020 Marty Se7en’s tournament.  Football teams from across the Wellington region competed in a fun filled day at Coronation Park.
